Scheduled Programs for Spring 2010--Continuing Education for LPC's
Introduction to Equine Assisted Counseling
LPC's,
come out and experience the horses, have fun, and get CEU's for it!
Learn and experience the therapeutic power of the horse. We use the
EAGALA model, a solution oriented, team approach in which the client
works with the horses on the ground. (No riding. This is not therapeutic riding.) Great for your stuck or resistant clients?
The
first hour will be for background on the Equine Assisted Growth and
Learning Association (EAGALA) model, Equine Assisted Counseling,
introductions, and answering questions. We will then work with the
horses for about 1.5 hrs, followed by a 30 minute processing and Q
& A time.

Medicine Works, LLC, is a permanent CE provider #192 for the South
Carolina LLR Board of Licensure of Professional Counselors, Marriage
and Family Therapists, and Psycho-Educational Specialists. What to wear?
You will be out in the pasture when working with the horses. Come
prepared for changing weather conditions, e.g. layered clothing, a
poncho (if threatening rain), etc. Wear shoes or boots you can get
muddy.
Rain: light rain or sprinkles we can work with--it is
part of the therapy. In the event of significant rain, thunder, and lightening, we will give you
an alternate, make-up date.
After completing this program, you will be able to:
Discuss the use of equine assisted therapy (EAT) in mental health counseling.
Compare and contrast EAT to regular talk therapy.
Describe the basics of the EAGALA model approach.
Psychobiology of Adolescent Mind-Body Healing: Gene Expression, Neurobiology, Archetypes, and Experiential Therapies
In
the morning session, we will examine the psychobiology and role of
genes, neurogenesis, mirror neurons, and neural development in the
mental health therapeutic process. We will then relate these to
developmental imprinting and Jungian archetypes.
In
the afternoon
session, we will discuss the above in relation to mental health
disorders and present an archetypal model for working with clients.
Disorders will include, post-traumatic stress,
attention deficit hyperactivity, Asperger's syndrome, non-verbal
learning disability, adoption, and others as time permits.
You will also have the opportunity to participate in two experiential
therapies that can be used with your clients: drum and equine assisted.
In the equine assisted therapy you will go outside and actually work with
the horses. In the drum therapy you will have an opportunity to meet one of your personal archetypes.
