Sex Offenses

Here is a list of sex offenses from the state of Florida. Other states have similar lists.
  • Enticing or luring a child younger than 12 into a structure, dwelling, or place for an unlawful sexual purpose
  • Sexual assault (battery)
  • Purchasing or paying anyone younger than 18 for prostitution
  • Lewd, lascivious or indecent assault or act upon on in the presence of a child younger than 16
  • Use of a child under the age of 18 in a sexual performance
  • Distribution of obscene materials to a minor younger than 18 or computer pornography that involves a minor
  • Selling or buying of minors for sexually explicit conduct
To give you an idea, many states how some real outdated laws still on their books about sex offenses, especially in the Bible belt. This is because these laws are passed by legislators. The "rational" behind these laws are based on pleasing religiously conservative constituents, not on science of therapeutic considerations. In South Carolina, for example, oral sex and homosexual sex are still on the law books as criminal acts.

In Florida, a woman was charged as a sex offender when a peeping tom, her neighbor, was looking through a crack where her blinds did not come quite all the way down. He was filming her even. She walked into her kitchen to get a glass of water. Through the window behind her you could see children's swings in her back yard. Even though it was a solid fence and no children were around, she was charged for indecent exposure (in her own house with pulled drapes and covers!). The peeping tom was not charged but congratulated for being a good citizen. Go figure.
