Single Parenting Troubled Teens Single parenting in general
can be exhausting. Just a few words here on this topic. And, when it is
a troubled teen, it can be overwhelming. It has the advantage that you
don't have to deal with a spouse that sabotage your parenting efforts
and decisions. A major disadvantage is that you often, if not all the
time, are in there all alone.
The important point here is the
necessity for SUPPORT! Do you have a support network/system you can
turn to when things get tough or just to keep your morale up? Many of
the single parents we work with are single mothers trying to go it
alone. They don't have a back-up support system in place. But the same
can be true for single dad parents.
Most singles we work with are also working parents.
This can compound the stress and usually does. (Not perhaps as much as
not working when it means not having an income or having to try to live
on a substandard income.)
In these days of the Internet, a
support network is only finger tips away. Go to any major search engine
(Google.com, Yahoo.com, Answers.com, etc.) and type in "single parent"
or some derivation thereof, and you will have a number of options to
explore right there in front of you. If you add your city and state,
you will be able to find local organizations and resources that are
available.
Financial support sources will also pop up. There are organizations that single parents can apply for financial aid too.
Other
resources you might explore include churches, religious organizations,
and community organizations. Mother's Day Out is run by one of our area
churches. It babysits so that parents can take a short break.
Here are a couple of websites you might also look into:
And you can always Google it to find other resorces.
